AN Alexandria man hid nearly £10,000 worth of cannabis in his step-daughter's wardrobe because younger children wouldn't go in there, a court has heard.

Robert Hollywood had stashed the drugs there as well as cash, scales and bags for dividing to sell it all within his Alexandria home.

The 35-year-old pleaded guilty last week at Dumbarton Sheriff Court to being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

Police turned up at the home in Braehead, Bonhill, on August 21 last year with a search warrant and entered through an unlocked back door, announcing themselves as officers.

Hollywood was in his bed at the time and his partner returned shortly after when they were served with the warrant and police began their search.

In the wardrobe of the step-daughter they found 950g of cannabis, another box with 9g and another 1g of the drug elsewhere. In a cupboard in Hollywood's bedroom was a set of scales and a quantity of polythene bags.

Police also found amounts of cash: £550 in £50 notes, in a jacket, £400 in mixed notes in a money bag, and £160 in mixed notes in a drawer.

The court heard how everyone at the property were detained and taken to Clydebank police office.

Depute fiscal Sarah Healing said: "The accused made admissions to the cannabis recovered from the step-daughter's bedroom. He said it was nothing to do with her. He said he put it there because the young children would not go into the room."

She said the 950g would be worth about £4,000 wholesale but, divided up, the total stash in the property could yield £9,600.

Ms Healing also made a motion to forfeit the three quantities of cash found at the home.

Hollywood's defence solicitor said there was a legitimate reason for the money, unconnected with the drugs, and he would submit details at the next hearing.

Sheriff William Gallacher said all sentencing options would remain open to him and he called for reports before Hollywood's next appearance on September 8.
