Renton is set to gain a new youth club, in a move which aims to give both primary pupils and older children a new resource in an area reckoned to be short of recreation facilities for youngsters in the evening.

Renton Youth Club has been set up by a group of volunteers, and will be based in the West of Scotland Autism and Aspergers Centre in Station Road, next to Renton Station, aiming to cater both for P1 to p7 children and secondary 1st and 2nd years – and will cost £1 per session plus anything needed from the tuck shop.

Volunteer Jamie Bakhsh said: “There isn't much for kids in Renton at the moment, and we decided it would be a great idea to give them something to enjoy on a Wednesday evening.

“We'll be having all sorts of games, and hopefully organising excursions to local parks and other days out.”

Christmas-themed activities are also on the radar for later this year.

He added: “It's early days yet, but I think it will be a popular idea and we're looking forward to our official start on Wednesday, September 7.”

Meantime consent forms are available to collect at the centre from Wednesday, August 31.

The p1 to p7 children will meet at 6pm, while the older youngsters' sessions will run from 7.30pm till 9pm.
