THE crucial planning application for a bid to transform the site of Dumbarton’s former Ballantine’s whisky plant is set to go live this month.

Developer Cullross, a main player in the scheme – whose initial phase will see the creation of 108 new affordable homes, aims to make the application in mid-August.

The firm has said that while this is “slightly behind schedule” it aims to provide the best plan possible.

The derelict site which was the former home of the Ballantine’s Whisky Distillery is to be regenerated under proposals by Cullross and Dunbritton Housing Association (DHA), and will change the face of the Harbour front.

The current proposals for the redevelopment of the site involve demolishing the site’s landmark former distillery tower to make way for much needed new homes.

It’s expected the first homes will be ready for occupation within 12-14 months of starting on site.

While the distillery will be gone the project is likely to feature brick throughout, in reference to the Ballantine’s buildings which once stood on the site.
