A POLICE crackdown on drug users has seen 19 people from across West Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute arrested.

And it's understood they have confiscated a variety of drugs with an estimated street value of almost £100,000.

The Reporter can also reveal that the two-week long intelligence operation has snared a further 10 people.

Those 10 people are now subject to a report to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with alleged drugs offences.

The operation was led by officers in both West Dunbartonshire and Argyll divisions and a number of properties were raided in areas such as Dumbarton, Alexandria, Helensburgh and as far north as Oban.

During the searches, drugs believed to be Diamorphine, Cocaine, Cannabis and Diazepam with an estimated street value of £94,000 pounds were recovered.

Detective Sergeant Iain Gillies, who was part of the Police Scotland operation said the two-week crackdown has helped officers "disrupt serious and organised crime" in the areas raided.

He said: "This operation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to crack down on drugs in our communities.

"Many of our operations are based on intelligence received from members of the public and this is vital in helping us disrupt serious and organised crime and detect offenders.

"We are grateful for any assistance we are given in ridding our streets of drugs."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "During the operation, 22 properties were searched under warrant in the Clydebank, Dumbarton, Alexandria, Helensburgh and Oban areas.

"As a result, 17 men and two women were arrested.

"Nine men and one woman are subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with alleged drugs offences.

"Police enquiries are continuing and a full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal."

Detective Sergeant Iain Gillies said officers will continue to target those who are using illegal substances in their on-going battle to rid the streets of drugs.

However, he also appealed to members of the public to help play a part too.

He said: "I would urge anyone with information regarding drugs in their area to contact their local police office through 101.

"Alternatively CRIMESTOPPERS can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
