A thug responsible for several crimes which took place at West Dunbartonshire supermarkets was tagged after attacking four female workers.

Andrew Hendry was in the dock at Dumbarton Sheriff Court for a string of offences.

It was revealed in a previous appearance in the same court, that the 46-year-old assaulted four female shop workers at the Co-operative Keystore in Clydebank on April 19, 2021, by repeatedly spitting on the ground near them.

Hendry, who was sentenced this week for the offence, also admitted to pushing one of the employees, all whilst shouting and swearing.

A separate incident took place on the same day and it was revealed that Hendry punched a protective screen at a Scotmid shop counter whilst shouting and swearing.

When Hendry, of Ashton View, Dumbarton, entered the store, he also uttered derogatory remarks and threats that placed two of the workers in a state of alarm.

Later on December 6, 2021, he broke wooden planks off a fence near Lidl without a reasonable excuse.

Sheriff William Gallacher previously deferred his sentencing at the town's court in March to allow him "to feel the benefit" of a current community payback order.

During his sentencing on May 16, his lawyer Kenneth McGowan said: "He has not had his own home for a significant number of years, but he is settled in his home.

"I would not want to set him up to fail. He has expressed his difficulties to me. I think he recognises that he is most vulnerable to alcohol. I wonder if you might consider that there is a way forward."

Sheriff Gallacher told Hendry: "For both of these matters together, I make an order where you are subject to remaining in your home address. It is not trivial, but it is not as extensive as it otherwise has been."

Hendry was put on a restriction of liberty order for four months. He was ordered to remain in his home from 7pm to 7am.
