Yet again, Y Sort It are putting on a fantastic range of summer activities for young people across West Dunbartonshire.

It never ceases to amaze me how much energy and drive the young people and adults who run this well-known and much-loved youth organisation have.

This year’s Y Sort It summer programme is bigger and better than ever before, with lots of great stuff going on every week that young folk can enjoy.

If you have a young person at home who would benefit from getting out with others in a safe and fun environment, have them look up Y Sort It on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram for details of what is going on.

The council is also running free family fun days throughout the summer.

There will be a wide range of activities taking place for kids of all ages. Keep an eye on the council’s website and social media for details.

Loch Lomond Highland Games

I may be biased, having grown up and spent most of my life in Balloch, but a summer highlight for me is always the Loch Lomond Highland Games.

This year's event will be held on Saturday, July 15, at Moss O’ Balloch, right in the heart of the village.

I will be at the SNP stall throughout the day. If you need help from a councillor or just want a blether, please come along and say hello.

We’ll be hosting our annual tombola at the stall and there will be plenty of information and other bits and bobs to take away.

There’s lots to do for everyone this summer. You just have to look through the local papers and online to see what’s going on.

Hopefully, the weather will be dry and bright.

Sun safety awareness

It’s important to stay safe in the sun and I want to thank my colleague Councillor Gordon Scanlan for bringing a motion to council that will mean, by next year, all of our children and young people in schools and nurseries will benefit from being taught about the dangers of over-exposure to the sun and how they can protect themselves from dangerous UV rays.

The council will work towards Sun Safe accreditation. The hope is that we can help people to enjoy the good weather in a safe way.

SNP activists were out and about throughout June and we’ll continue to spread a positive message for Scotland’s future throughout the rest of the year.

If you see us in a town centre or on your street, don’t be shy – we’d love to talk to you. If you just can't wait, visit www.valesnp.scot/survey and let us know what positive change you would like to see in your community.
